Email Mayor Pro Tem Bliss

Councilman Mark Bliss is currently serving his 2nd term on council after having been elected in November 2013. In this time on council, he was appointed by his fellow council members to serve back to back terms as the Mayor Pro Tem from 2015 to 2019.

He is a 3rd generation homeowner, Lamphere graduate, and lifelong resident of Madison Heights. He started our community 2 decades ago as the inaugural president of the Madison Heights Jaycees youth organization and has been active as a volunteer in the city ever since.

Professional Life

Professionally Mark is a certified IT Project Manager with a decade of experience with startups in the technology field. He's currently the Vice President of Marketing at Nuspire, a high-growth cybersecurity company that combats cyber threats through advanced technology and 24x7 monitoring by expert analysts.

Boards and Commissions

Mark’s experience in technology led him to champion the creation of the city's Information Technology Advisory Committee (ITAC), where Mark serves as the council delegate. Adopted by the council in 2014, ITAC has helped to shape the cities' internal technology strategies, and improve the city's ability to engage the community on the web and across social media.

Councilman Bliss also tapped into his love of the arts and founded the Arts Board in 2017, where he serves as the Council Representative. With a focus on bringing art to our community, the board gained state-wide notoriety in 2019, having been recognized by the Michigan Municipal League (MML) as a finalist for their Community Excellence Award.

In addition to ITAC and the Arts Board, Mark also serves on the Planning Commission, the Library Advisory Board, and the Friends of the Madison Heights Youth.

In previous years Mark has also served on the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, the City School Liaison Committee, The Environmental Citizens Committee, the Multi-Cultural Relations Advisory Board, the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments, and the Election Commission.

Personal Life

Personally Mark and his wife Allison are proud parents of 3 amazing children who absolutely love "Pure Michigan." In addition to their vacations "up north" they love visiting local treasures like the Detroit Zoo, Henry Ford Museum, Detroit Institute of Arts, Greenfield Village, and our very own Red Oaks Nature Center. They are also frequent visitors to the many farms, orchards, and farmer’s markets in the area.
